Ken Burns’ Baseball: The American Epic is one of my favorite documentary series of all time. Not only does it chronicle the game I’ve loved since I was a kid but it introduced Buck O’Neil to America at a mainstream level. Upper Deck produced an 80 card set in 1994 to coincide with the release of the series that was available in factory set form at several retailers as well as QVC, by direct mail, and through Upper Deck Authenticated’s catalog. Depending on where you purchased your set you also received 1 of 3 Bonus cards featuring Mickey Mantle (QVC), Michael Jordan (Direct Mail and UDA), or Babe Ruth (Retail). MSRP for the set was $19.95.
There was also a 9 card set available at GM dealerships for $1.00 and a mail in offer for a 15 card set available on packages of Little Debbie snacks for $3.99. The GM set features the GM logo in the bottom right front corner of the card front. The Little Debbie sets are numbered with an LD prefix and the Checklist card features the Little Debbie Logo.
The factory base set contains the last MLB licensed card of Pete Rose.
